Here are a couple highlights that Patrice and I shared with the group.
- We rely on our cars every day, yet we treat them like a bad ex-boyfriend. Be sure to check your owner’s manual for the recommended maintenance schedule, and don’t be afraid to look under the hood. Your brake fluid should look like chardonnay, not cabernet. Your air filter should not clogged with “boogers.” KNOW YOUR CAR.
- The most crucial part of good car maintenance is finding your PCT, Primary Care Technician. You need someone you trust, who has your best interest at heart, and who will look after you and your car for the long run. (This is very similar to finding a financial advisor.) You don’t go to a different ob-gyn each year because you get a coupon in the mail; likewise you shouldn’t be “shop-hopping” mechanics.
- We need more women in all professions, including car mechanics and the trades, and Patrice wants to be a role model for women to see this as a legitimate career path. (Women are also under-represented in the ranks of financial planners.)
We were thrilled to have Team Up Philly as our charitable partner. Executive Director Marian Perleman and “Coach Jae” Jennifer Williams joined us and shared their vision and the impact they’re having on young girls from Philadelphia by giving them opportunities in sports, cooking and leadership. Thanks to those who purchased tickets and our generous sponsor, RobustWealth, we are able to make a contribution of $430 to this great organization.
Third Annual evening of celebration, education, inspiration and empowerment!
This year we’re doing something a little different. In the spirit of supporting women entrepreneurs and disruptors, we will be on-site at Girls Auto Clinic and Clutch Beauty Bar, the side-by-side businesses started by Patrice Banks with the goal of empowering women in the male-dominated area of car maintenance. This year alone she has appeared at SXSW, the Makers Conference in Los Angeles, and on numerous national and local media outlets. Patrice inspires us all to become #sheCANics.
Let’s toast to the difference women can make when we set out to change the conversation!
Schedule for the evening
